AiB Team - Robert Todd and Theri Andino Hand Analysis

North passes, as does East (not really very attractive for a 3 bid), and South opens 1 in 3rd seat (or even an aggressive 2 preempt). After a 1 opening, West could try a 2 overcall, but he has a terrible suit. North raises to 2 no matter what West does. East can compete with 3 if West overcalled and now South has to reconsider his hand. His shortness all looks useful now that he's found a fit and the opponents are bidding the other suits, but he also still has only 11 points (not all useful) and partner is a passed hand and only made a simple raise. But 3 is definitely appropriate as a competitive (not encouraging) rebid. It looks like EW will let him have it there.
If North had any Aces, this would have had a shot at game, but this hand has 4 losers in the top 2 , 1, and 1.

East opens 1 and South passes - nowhere near good enough to overcall 2 red. West has an interesting choice between showing his and just raising - but with such a minimum hand and really just one bid's worth of input, he should support with support and bid 2 (which also makes life a little harder on North.) Indeed, North might have eked out 2 over 1, but here over 2, 3 seems too dangerous red, so he passes. East and South have nothing else to add, even though South is sure to want to balance in over a bid-and-raised Major by the opponents, but the colors aren't right.
This is a good decision as 3 would not have been a good contract. Beating 2 is possible on a trump lead and continuation, but that is unlikely from Kx. Without that, declarer likely has only 5 losers: 2, 2 , and 1, by establishing the suit.

AiB Team - Robert Todd and Theri Andino Hand Analysis

South passes and West has an amazing hand. It's 2-suited, which normally makes 2 less attractive, but it's so strong that it could be dangerous to open just 1. So 2 brings a positive game-forcing response from East (usually 2), and now West has to choose what to show first.
If West shows first then finding a 5-3 fit may be difficult. Over West's 2, East raises to 3 to show real support and not a minimum game-forcing hand. Now West can cuebid the void and East may try to sign off in 4 without the A or A. If West slows down and thinks about this carefully, he'll realize that this slam now hinges on partner having either the Q or shortness in (since partner denied the A, that's a definite loser now) and so any form of Blackwood won't help answer that. If he's feeling lucky, he may go ahead and just bid 6; if he's not, he might pass now or bid 5. It's hard to be pessimistic with such a good hand, so it seems like 6 is the likely contract.
Though there is only 1 loser with the Q onside, transportation is a problem. Declarer has a chance to make the hand by cashing 2 rounds of trump and then playing the K (which will be ducked) and another . South does not have the last trump and will not want to give declarer a ruff and sluff (though that does not cost on this hand), so he may play a , putting declarer on the dummy with the Ace. This gives declarer a chance to take a finesse in , which sadly gets ruffed, for down 1.

AiB Team - Robert Todd and Theri Andino Hand Analysis

West passes and North opens 1NT. East has values but not shape, so he passes, and South has to decide what to do: pass or bid Drop Dead Stayman. With 5 HCP, South knows their side has at least half the deck, so passing might not be terrible. The winning action today, as it often is, is to bid Stayman and pass 2, losing at most 5 tricks. But if South passes, 1NT is more of a challenge.

This is a good example of 1NT being a race and a difficult contract to play and defend. So much of this hand will come down to little decisions and timing. But on perfect defense, it can be beat. East leads a small , which looks bad initially but is necessary to set the rest of the suit up. When West gets in with the A, he returns a but very importantly, maintains communication by holding the 9. Now when East gets in with the K, he runs and ends in West's hand. West continues with a small and East has to win the J and the guess to drop North's K. This leads to EW getting 2, 1, 1, and 3. But if declarer is allowed to set up and without the defense getting the and right, he could come to up to 2, 3, and 3 tricks. Expect results all over the place on this one!

North passes and East passes, but South can open 1 in the 3rd seat on this Rule of 20 hand (or a preemptive 2). That lets West bid 2 Michaels Cue Bid to show both Majors, and North will likely pass. East knows they have a big fit and is a maximum passed hand, so even if partner has a terrible hand, 3 should be a decent place to play and he bids it. South is done, West shouldn't bid again, and North doesn't really have a desire to compete further, so here we are.
Since East is playing this, there's a small chance the defense may slip up and let him pitch a , but if the defense is on the ball, they should be able to take 1, 2, and 2.

East passes - close to opening but not quite - and so does South. West may preempt 2 - even though his suit is pretty bad, his hand is pretty good, and it will put maximum pressure on North. Indeed, North overcalls 2, not terribly happily, and East is fine defending that. South isn't going anywhere, so here we are.
Funnily enough, this is a good "sacrifice" against West's 2, which looks like it was making. Here, declarer loses 2, 1, 1, and 1, and then the 4-1 trump break will start causing problems when North gets tapped or overruffed in (although if East leads the J, that makes North's life easier.) So if North goes down 1, that's only -50, and if he happens to make it, so much the better!

South opens 1 and West passes. North could make a 3/1 invitational bid of 3, but not having that tool, Responder must start with a (semi-)forcing 1NT, and East has nowhere to go since South opened his suit. South rebids 2, and North has to choose between showing his (non-forcing) and raising . It's not an easy choice - although it would be made easier if 1NT were actually semi-forcing, as that would tend to imply that South has a more real suit and is slightly more likely to be short in . North may go low and bid only 2 leaving both or in play, but if he jumps to 3 that will end the auction as well.
If North plays from the top, there are 2 losers and 1 or 2 losers - likely making either 3 or 4!

AiB Team - Robert Todd and Theri Andino Hand Analysis

West opens either 1 or 1 or 1NT, so let's proceed with the 1NT auction. North overcalls with his single-suited option - maybe just a DONT double - and that doesn't stop East from bidding Stayman. South keeps quiet and West shows no 4-card Major, so North still has room to bid 2. East isn't scared off by that and does have a stopper, so 3NT is it.
North does have a powerful hand with lots of entries, but West still makes this as long as he leads up to the Q while he still has a stopper. Then he comes to 2, 2, and 5 tricks.
