AiB Team - Robert Todd and Theri Andino Hand Analysis

North passes but is ready to bid quite a bit if partner opens, and East passes too. South has a huge hand but still starts with a 1 opening, which West passes. North bids 1 and South would like to show a big hand but all his choices have some flaws - perhaps 2NT is the best/least lie. North then searches for a fit but doesn't find it, and not knowing that partner's are extra long, settles for 3NT when South offers it. Also possible that South rebids 3, and North probably just bids 3NT. (Players using Precision may have a very different auction and possibly a better chance of getting to the slam.)
If NS had found the slam, that one little loser would be all declarer has to worry about, especially when the even split 2-2. But in 3NT, the defense can take 4 tricks.

East passes and South opens 1 (maybe 1NT, depending on how aggressively partnership agreements do so), and West overcalls 1. North doubles and East raises to 2. South can't really offer anything else (especially since his KQ are pretty clearly not 5 points anymore), so he passes, West passes, and it's up to North to let this go or not. But North should be able to work out that if EW are bidding and South couldn't trot out or (although that might just be because he's a minimum), he probably has real , and North may raise to 3. If he does, that's likely to be the end of it. Of course, North might just pass this out in 2.
If NS play 3, when South loses 1, 1, and 1, making this contract will come down to only losing 1, and that means playing East for exactly 9x, and that's potentially hard to do. IF EW play 2, declarer loses 1, 3 (as long as the defense lets declarer flounder through them himself), 1, and 1 - at least, it's possible to lose more, but also possible the defense helps with .

South passes and West preempts 2. North passes too, and East either just bids 4, trusting partner's red vs. white preempt, or asks for more information with something like Ogust, finds out partner has just the really nice , and then goes to 4.
This works out really well, and in fact, the only reason it doesn't make more than 10 tricks is that South can ruff a .

West preempts 2, North passes, East passes, and South doubles in for takeout. North can now make a straightforward bid, but even better, could use Lebensohl to show 4-card and a stopper, leaving South to decide what game to put it in - probably 4 (but 3NT not at all unreasonable.)
It's not really either North or South's fault that this just doesn't work - a lot of things go very wrong. The nasty split brings 2 losers, the another 2 losers, and the A brings the total to down 2.

North opens 1 and East passes, so South probably just backs into 1NT. West likely doubles for takeout, North passes, and East half-heartedly chooses 2. South can now show his support with 3, and that's likely to be the end of it.
Declarer loses 2 and 1, and that could be all if he drops the K singleton - easier to do if he gets to find out that East has the AK first.

East passes, South passes, and West opens 1, even with this unpleasant suit. North passes and East bids something to show his limit raise - possibly a 2 Drury if they play 2-way Drury - and South could take an action then, either double or 3. Even if West knows partner has 4-card support, he still won't be that tempted and will just sign off in 2. If South did bid 3, West passes and East has to choose whether to compete to 3 or not. Let's say they do.
North's are a nuisance, but as soon as South shows out, West knows to pick up the J so there's only the one loser there. Declarer also loses 1 and 2, but that's all.

South passes and West opens 1. North overcalls 1 and East bids 1NT, so South continues to pass. West is fine with stopping low, and North thinks he might have enough entries to beat this if partner can come up with anything, so he leaves it too.
South should go ahead and lead partner's suit, especially since he has no strong opinion of his own, and that's going to make declarer's life a little scary, but as long as he takes the finesse, he should be in good shape with 1, 5, 1, and 1.

West passes, North passes, East passes (possibly opens 2), and South opens 1 (or maybe even bumps it all the way up to 2NT if he's feeling frisky). West passes and North starts with 1, so now South can rebid 2NT. North can employ whatever kind of system they have here - Wolff or just New Minor Forcing will work - and find South's 3-card suit to pick that game.
The suit is situated unfortunately, but the K is onside and the Q is not, and declarer just loses those 2 and 1.
