WOW!! What a way to star the afternoon. North has a horrible 14 HCP hand. All her points are outside her suits but she will open regardless. East has the best hand at the table and will show her hand by bidding 1NT.\South is in a quandary. Most play that a double in this position is for penalty however she is about one queen short of a double. She doesn't have a suit of her own. We expect most Souths to pass quietly.

If South says anything her side will be in trouble and go down at whatever contract they elect.

South will lead a club which declarer will win in hand. She will immediately lead a diamond as she has the intermediate spots in that suit.

Both sides will struggle to avoid being endplayed and eventually The defense should avoid playing clubs again as it will give declarer an extra club trick. East will come to seven tricks, making her contract.

EW have a good auction and get to the very reasonable notump game. Unfortunately for the offense the contract is doomed to defeat.

North has an outside entry to her suit so her best lead is a high diamond. South will contribute the 66. North knows that declarer has at most two more diamonds. She can continue with the K or try a low diamond in case South holds the Q. The play of the low diamond should be suit preference for clubs. Regardless how North chooses to proceed Declarer will win one diamond. If North decides to cash her second high diamond she will play a low diamond next, indicating that she has a club entry.

Declarer can see the writing on the wall and will cash out her winners. She's take the one diamond, four hearts and two spades. When the defense gets in they will score six tricks.

East has a great hand once her partner shows a monster however she is lacking controls and will quietly pass, never giving any thought to making a slam.

There is little to the play of this board. North will likely lead the 10. Declarer will win.

Most will make 11 tricks. We think her best plan is to ruff two spades in her hand. However on this board she needs to play very carefully. She should continue with the A to ruff a club. Now she can cash the K and ruff a spade to ruff a club to ruff her last spade. However declarer must ruff high with the K.

If North overruffs declarer is home as she can win the return and get to her hand to draw trump. If North decides not to overruff, declarer must first cash one diamond to strip North of an exit which locks declarer in dummy. We don't see this happening at very many tables.

Is anything ever easy at this game? Usually not but perhaps this is an easy slam to bid and make.

South will consider making an Unusual notrump bid at her turn however in the end she will pass because of the vulnerability.

West is not in a position to just ask for aces as her diamond holding is precarious. So she must go slowly so she can get the idea to her partner that East must have control of that suit.

West's 3 bid is forcing and shows extra values and length. West starts a cuebidding sequence and shows her club ace. West shows her heart ace and West knows her diamond holding is golden and bids the small slam.

North may lead a trump so as to not give away a trick. Declarer will win, draw trump, dislodge the A and claim.

North will lead a red card. Declarer will win, unblock the diamonds. There are communication difficulties for declarer on this board.

The exit from dummy will depend upon how declarer played to the first trick. If North lead a diamond declarer can afford to come to her hand with a heart as she plans to lead the Q from her hand. South cannot successfully attack hearts. If North lead a heart declarer should play low from dummy winning in her hand. She can now lead the Q.

Eventually declarer will come to nine tricks if she plays carefully.

Pass1All pass

North will open, South has nothing to add to the discussion. With five HCPs she might have offered a bid in one of the majors however her points are in clubs so she will pass.

West must decide whether to balance however her values are also in the minors and we think most will pass quietly.

North will struggle and probably make sever tricks. She does have a "wonky" play she can make in clubs. She might consider leading the Q from her hand. The trick will of course lose to West however when North regains the lead she can play another club and finesse against East's jack. She will win two club tricks this way.

Declarer will win two clubs, three hearts, she should score one spade ruff in dummy. She will score her Q and dummy willeventually win a trick with her J.

Depending upon the partnership methods, South will show a Limit Raise of hearts. Some pairs use Drury in this situation. Regardless North will carry on to game as she has a singleton diamond.

East will lead a high diamond and continue the suit. If East leads the 9 declarer should suspect it may be a singleton. There is not a lot of empirical evidence to suggest the club is a singleton however if East leads the club rather than the diamond declarer should ask herself why she didn't get a diamond lead. It appears the defense has all the honors in that suit and yet they are leading clubs.

Once declarer gains the lead she will have 11 tricks. She will draw trump and try the spade finesse. She return to dummy in clubs to repeat the spade finesse. She will lose one club and one diamond.

We think North will get very enthusiastic about her hand when she hears that South has clubs and hearts.

East is unlikely to lead a heart. Declarer will win, draw trump and she can comfortably take the club finesse. If it loses she can get to dummy with a spade to discard her two losing hearts. If the club finesse works she has 13 tricks.

This is her lucky day!!
