West will show a Limit Raise according to partnership methods. East will bid the heart game.

We think most South players will lead a spade. Declarer must guess whether South is leading from the king or the jack. If South is leading from the jack declarer must play low from dummy. However if declarer thinks South is leading from the king she must rise and play the Q from dummy. This will avoid the loss of a spade trick and allow declarer to make 11 tricks.

On any non - spade lead has the timing to draw trump, winning the return and test the clubs. When they split 3 - 3, she can discard her losing spade on dummy's long club.

After North shows strong support for diamonds South may just blast to the diamond slam. She needs two keycards from partner. Using any form of Blackwood will also work on this layout as South needs any two aces from North. If South doesn't drive the partnership to the diamond slam they will be in a notrump game.

Playing in the notrump game NS should make 11 tricks, especially if the defense begins with a heart lead. On any other lead declarer will have to find the Q to make her eleventh trick. We think finding the Q is very much a guess. Declarer knows that East began with seven spades and may deduce that she has three hearts. (This is especially true if South is declaring and West's opening lead is a heart. The best declarer can do is conclude that East started with three clubs. And given that this means West has three clubs declarer must guess who has the queen.

For pairs playing in 6 the problem is exactly the same. Declarer must find the Q.

Note that South can make 12 tricks on a Dummy Reversal but ruffing three hearts in her hand and discarding two clubs from dummy on her good spades. But the communications between North and South do not work because trump split 4 - 0.

East will overcall and South will show a Limit Raise. Many pairs do this by cuebidding the overcalled suit. With her great hand North will explore for slam by cuebidding a club control. South will show a diamond control and North will bid the spade slam.

The crux of the deal is for declarer to find the K. She has only one play and it is to take the diamond finesse. Since it works this afternoon declarer will make her slam.

We think North will lead a diamond to start the defense. Declarer will win, perhaps cashing a few clubs before leading a spade toward her hand. She will win a spade trick. West can try for a second spade by leading the suit toward her hand a second time. However when she plays a second round of spades South must take on;y one of her high spades and continue diamonds.

Declarer can cash her nine tricks however the defense will win two spades and two diamonds.

If for some Reason North leads a heart, which is not likely on this auction the defense should come to four tricks as well. This time they will win two spades and two hearts.

North will open and jump to show her values. South, already having shown her heart suit will use Checkback Stayman to ask whether North has three hearts or four spades. North will deny either holding and South will bid the notrump game.

East should lead a club. Although her diamond suit is better than her clubs she knows that North has a huge hand and leading away from her Q may help declarer.

Declarer will lose two tricks regardless of the lead. She must lose the K and the A. She has the remaining 11 tricks on several different lines of play.

All pass

East has a very thin opening bid however we think most will open the hand. South has the values for an overcall and will do so reluctantly. When my partners overcall on a hand like this one, their usual explanation is that they had the K mixed in with their hearts.

West will make a Negative Double promising four spades. North will make a Limit Raise according to partnership methods. For some pairs a bid of 2 by North shows that raise. East will compete to 3 and South with a singleton diamond will carry on to 4. The fact that South's singleton is the king devalues her hand however she knows that North has at most a doubleton spade. This may motivate her to compete.

Declarer will lose one heart and one diamond. South must also lose one club on this layout regardless how she plays the suit. In the play of the heart suit most will lead a heart toward dummy and finesse. They will later repeat the finesse.

The clubs split favorably for declarer and there is nothing adverse on this deal so South will make 10 tricks.

West will overcall 1NT disclosing the location of every high card. North will double. Most play this as penalty and if left to play the contract West will win three tricks after North leads a spade. West will win the spade and try establish some clubs. South will win and the defense will cash four spades. If NS can untangle the diamond suit they can win five more diamonds.

East however will get her side to clubs rather than remain in the notrump contract. South, seeing no future in defending a club contract will take another bid. North will place her side in the spade game.

South will win the opening lead, come to her hand and lead the Q. She can pickup the spade suit. She knows that West must hold the A for her bid and likely the Q. Declarer can make this conclusion from a negative inference.

If West held the KQ she would have led one of them. If West leads a club it will be a low club so declarer can conclude that West does not hold both club honors. In order to get to 15 HCPs West must have the Q.

Declarer can play the deal like an open book and come to 12 tricks.

South will find herself in a very unpleasant contract. She was hoping to play in either 2 or 2 however the auction developed much more quickly than she had anticipated.

West will lead a club. Declarer will win in dummy. With no entries to her hand she will have to manufacture some. One option is to cash the A and continue with the J. West should holdup to sever communication to the South hand.

After West holds up on the second round of diamonds declarer should try the heart suit. She can cash the ace and continue a heart toward her hand. East will play low, declarer winning the Q. Upon discovering the heart situation she cannot continue hearts so she should revert to diamonds. West will win, exit a club. Declarer can now play a heart toward her hand. East will take her king.

East cannot play a heart as this will allow South entry to her hand and her good diamonds. So East will continue a club. The defense will take the remaining tricks and South will be down three.

If South returns a trump declarer will win in dummy, cash two high clubs and good diamond discarding her losing hearts. West will lose two spades and one diamond.

When South rebids 1NT North knows her partner has at last two hearts. With the eight card fit North can bid the game.

There is little to the play of this deal as North must lose one spade and one heart. Even if North discards a spade on dummy's high diamond East will rise with the A as soon as the suit is played.

East will open showing a strong hand. West will make a waiting bid and North will ruin everyone's show. From this point on the auction is in unexplored territory. East's 4NT should not be a Blackwood type bid but rather showing a big notrump opening hand.

We think West should just bid the diamond slam as there is no way to scientifically get there.

North will lead a high spade. Declarer will discard a club on the A. West can draw trump and try the club finesse to make 13 tricks.

North will open, South will bid spades and North will jump to the spade game.

The defense will win the obvious tricks of two clubs and one heart.
